- My parents bought me a CD player for my 1990 uk Volvo 340 gl, but I can't seem to attach it. It is a wharfdale in car cd player (currently at Dixons £99) but there are no plugs at the back, only wires. The wires on the cd are clearly marked, but the wires going in to the plug for the audio power etc in the car are not marked at all. On the player, I have red (+ve ignition on), yellow (+ve permanent - backup), black (gound). On the car, I have red, green, red+black.
- I want to place speakers in the back of my Volvo 360 GLS. Have I got to wire them to the front of my car and if yes, what is the best way ?
Answers:
-
Player Red to Car Red (if its permanently live)
Player Black to Car Red/Black
Player Yellow to a live which comes on when you switch ignition on Body of CD to Car Green.
However, I make no warranties ! Its better to get a multimeter on it !

You talking about your saloon aren't you. Its pretty easy, ASFAIK there is
no installed rear wiring.
Presumably you will install speaker in the parcel shelf, this works well in
the saloon giving a good bass box effect, and can take 6x9inch speakers, but
you have to cut the shelf with a sharp knife.
Feed the wire up and into the side, it should then come down the side of the
seat. Remove the door seal to lift the white vinyl if necessary.
Unscrew the 2 front and rear doors carpet and door seal clamp, then lift the
back seat and feed the wires down through the gaps at the bottom of the
metal and then under the carpet. Catch the wire on the other side and feed
down under the carpet. You then get to the seat dome mount thing, this has
gaps under it too so the wires can go through there or simply around it if
you want. An old coat hanger is useful here to feed the wire.
Then under the front carpet, then pop off the side plastic cover, remove the
door seal and lift the foor well carpet, feed the wire up into the dash,
then follow the front speaker wires to the radio / cass.
I used Apline 6x9s (not the low end ones) in the rear of my saloon GLT, they
were about GBP130 but on sale for 99, excellent result and looks good. Next
is amp upgrade, the speakers have much more to give, but that will have to
wait after the GLE overhaul project, when I'll have to move the speakers
over to the GLE and reinstall wiring etc ...ooh.
