(Exterior) Questions:
Main Q&A
  1. I was wondering where the paint code ID plate is on the 360 series ?

  2. Volvo 340 styling ?

  3. I saw a tuned Volvo 300 sedan - lowered, special body parts, 195 tires, Volvo rims, a spoiler with a 3th stop light... Does anybody knows where to find these things ? Or have I got to make them myself ?

  4. Can anyone describe the procedure for replacing the glass on the drivers door mirror(manual) on a 360? I don't have a Haynes manual and am loath to buy one just for this job, but don't want to damage the mirror.

If you open the engine compartment, you can see (look at the **) the plate. The 3rd number from the top, in the left row is the color code (on a 84' 360 GLT). If you can't find it, have a look into the manual. In the index, if you look for "color code", you should find the exact description of the color code location. Up

    • Probably the best way is to make it look like a 360!

Anyway, not much on the web about 300 series, pretty unpopular for 'styling' or customisation for that matter.

I had an all black 345 DL 1.4 with straight though exhaust and left-over BMW steel wheels (5.5x14in), uprated / lowered front suspension. Pretty cool in its day.. early 90s, but not many people thought so. 360s have alot more potential and cost nothing these days (We have 3 between me and the other half). Up
    • I once recall an issue of MAX POWER (I think) which had a 340GLE (Hatchback.) with:
      • Black metallic paint.
      • Fully Blacked out windows.
      • Whale tale spoiler (Adapted from Fiesta XR3i ?)
      • Side skirts (Hybrid, custom made.)
      • 16Inch Venom Alloys (1cm clearance from arch!!!).
      • Front Fog / Spot Lamps.
      • MEGA Aggressive front bumper and airdam (Must be a custom made.)
      • Bonnet vents.
      • Some kind of Sierra RS engine in it I think ?
      • Back 'Volvo 360' emblem removed and a 'Super Sorted' badge in place. Flourecsent blue strip lighting going round the number plates. On the side, above the sill in italics it said 'VOLVO'..
      • Inside there was also about £3000 worth of ice and carbon fibre dashboard.
      Very nice !!! Up

  2. Well, some of the stuff is directly available. I think Jamex or Eibach made (front) lowering springs. The rear is a bit tricky as the 300 doesn't use a 'screw' type spring. Not sure if the rear can be lowered at all..

During the 300's life did Volvo sell quite some 'toys' for the 300 like a body-kit and spoiler(s). You could also go for a 'generic' rear spoiler from someone like Kamei.

195 tires on a 300? Rear should be no problem (perhaps some fender work), but in my experience with 185's the front would rub on the inside when turning the wheel to the max. Perhaps some metal-work can fix that or the maximum steering has to be reduced.

What Volvo rims were on the car? I expect from a 400-series (same bolt-pattern and size) because these are usually a bit wider than the 300 rims and could accomodate 195 tires. Or perhaps some aftermarket wheels with Volvo logo's. Up

  3. Very simple, leaver out with wide blade screw driver. Push adjustment to one side so you can get the blade in.

To get the new mirror on is a little harder, unless its one from a scrap yard and you have cracked the centre 'collar' which is a push on ball joint, it takes alot of force. Anyway check for cracks first, then warm the collar on the mirror a little (inside room temperature should be fine) so its not brittle, then with some cloth and a G-Clamp press the mirror on, slotting in the adjusting blade first. Probably a good idea to grease the ball joint first with petrolium jelly / vaselene. Up
